About Active Mendip

Active Mendip – Supporting Sustainable Activities
Active Mendip is a group of individuals, businesses and organisations working with, and committed to, the wild beauty of the Mendip Hills. Our common theme is direct involvement or support of outdoor pursuits under, on, or even above the Mendips. From cavers through to gliding our members provide the widest range of outdoor pursuits.
Active Mendip are committed to utilising the Mendip Hills in a sustainable way. We aim to highlight and promote the attractions of the area and the fun you can have here. We help the local community to benefit from the interest in outdoor pursuits, but without damaging the landscape we love and work in.
Active Mendip is a registered Community Interest Company (No. 6370791), this means we can trade and raise funds from grants safe in the knowledge it’s all plowed back to support the Mendip Hills.

Rising from the Bristol Channel near Weston-super-Mare across to Wells in the east, the Mendip Hills provides a perfect background to every imaginable outdoor pursuit. From caving to gliding, and every other activity in-between, the Mendip Hills are easily a match for their more famous neighbours, Exmoor and Dartmoor.

The Mendip Hills are a range of limestone hills and 200sq kms are designated an Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with extra protection and conservation of the local landscape. From its high point at Beacon Batch at 325 metres, the Mendip Hills includes extensive open grasslands, deep gorges and caves; an ideal playground for anyone looking to walk, cycle, ride or take part in any other outdoor activity.

This website lists businesses, organisations and other resources you will find helpful if you are considering visiting us. Some activities may include a cost, but you will also find information on many of the free outdoor pursuit activities available to you when you come to enjoy the Mendip Hills.
